The 10 Key Fall/Winter 2021 Trends

Summer feels like a distant memory, and we are looking ahead to the season of cozy cashmere jumper and sleek must-have leather jacket, plaid skirt. Last fall we were more than happy to wrap ourselves in comfy PJs while working from home, but this year we are thirsty to put together outfits that are a bit more fashion forwards, as we go to fancy restaurants and grab drinks with our co-workers.

Here you will find the 10 fall fashion trends for fall 2021 to start shopping (and wearing) right this very second.

The ’90 revival

The 90s mania has been enjoying a return to the spotlight for a few years now, but this year the trend will go even further, from head to toe. Match your favorite baguette bags with tall square-toe boots and maxi-length cardigans. Or a cropped cardigan over a mini skirt and sneakers. Layer white T-shirts and grungy boots under silk slip dresses.

Saturated Hues

This year there is no swapping pretty pastels colors and tropical bright prints with navy, khaki green, burgundy, and other moody hues. This year the transition is “softer”, and vibrant shades still reign supreme with an autumnal twist. Think about jewel tones, deep magenta, mustard yellow. The best way to rock this look is to mix and match unexpected combinations: like peachy orange, bubblegum pink, and marigold. To create a look that it is still wonderfully colorful and seasonally appropriate.

Neon brights proliferated at Versace, Balmain, and Roksanda; calculated hits of green, blue, and orange dominated at Bottega Veneta, and  Fendi, and Off-White.

Switch out your neutrals and test the theory.

Loose-fit denim

Skinny jeans will always hold a special place in our hearts, no doubt! But for fall 2021, looser styles like mom jeans, flares, bootcut, and boyfriend jeans are the way to go. To balance out the loose silhouette of the mom jeans, pair it with a slim-fit tee and tailored blazer, cropped sweater, or elegant blouse tucked in.

Sweater Vest

The sweater vest trend first popped in 2020, but it is still going strong in fall 2021. The most popular are those with some texture and detailing and a bit of oversize.

While the weather is still warm, wear the sweater vest over your bra or layer it over shirtdresses, or over a turtleneck.

Head to toe knitwear!

From ankle-skimming sweater dresses to body-swamping blankets, cashmere turbans, knitted handbags and nubbly armwarmers, sweater dressing was ramped up a notch for the new season, inviting tonal takes and a pile-it-on attitude. Gabriela Hearst loved the maxi sweater dress so much she showed it twice; once in her eponymous line’s collection, and again for her Chloé debut. And for good reason: The full-length cream style at Chloé was one of our picks of the season.

Midriff-baring sets are back this fall showing hints of skin peeking out between coordinating tops and midi or maxi skirts, a trend well celebrated by Kim Jones in his Fendi Fall/Winter Show.

Printed pants

Jeans and trousers in snake prints, checkerboard, zebra stripes, and punchy florals popping up left and right, this fall, conversely from summer, the fabrics are heavier and more structured like denim, corduroy, or wool, more of a tailored fit. It is allowed to have some fun and pair with other vibrant prints or go simple with a simple black, white, gray sweater and let the printed trousers be the heroes.

Puffy, quilted, and textured handbags

Image a crossbody bag that resembles puffer coats, intricately woven leather clutches. Some bags combine all three elements. The thing that we like most about this trend is that you can essentially pick and choose any style you like.

The chicest styles are monochrome leather.

Pantone 2021- Lavender color

Some of the shades that we will see during this fall 2021 are much more saturated and richer. We will also see to the raise of the lilac and lavender. In every fashion week around the world, we assisted designers such as Ferragamo, Roksanda using this palette in a wide variety of styles: like a lavender blazer, wide-leg trousers, or a floaty midi dress, then mix and match with other shades of purple and lilac or with basics pieces, like jeans and T-shirt.

Sequins and Sparkle for the Day

We haven’t been out and about for over a year and now we plan to live it up, shopping and wearing our “Revenge Dress”. We are pulling out dresses never worn as well as a stiletto, fabulous pieces from our wardrobe, including sequins and shiny metallic fashion items and we are more than excited to wear them anywhere we please.

Designers are in the mood to cut loose and live fast!  As Julien Dossena stated about his glamorous and party-centric Paco Rabanne collection:

” It is about girls enjoying themselves releasing that vibration of genuine pleasure!”

Platforms and Flatforms mania!

Platform loafers and lace-up boots, as well as clogs and ‘70s-esque heels, will give you a chic addition to your outfits.

From chunky Mary-Janes, embellished leather platform loafer at Versace to clogs at Brunello Cucinelli and Bottega, these are shoes guaranteed to lift your look, (or make you stand tall).
